Beautiful And Blind

Linda lives out in the trailer park

With her man of 20 years

Things go on there no one talks about

Nathan got himself a beauty

But she stays out late most every night

She comes home drunk and says Don’t bother me

He slips his arms around her sleeping body

Somewhere there’s a celebration

A wedding day in lace and light

So how come love’s so beautiful

How come love’s so beautiful

How come love’s so beautiful and blind

It would mean a lot to me

If you’d turn around

And maybe you would see

What I have found

In your love

How come, how come love

Is so beautiful and blind

How come, how come love

Is so beautiful and blind

If You Ever Get To Heaven

Everything I ever did can not be undone

And every love I ever lost could not have been won

What would you do if I was to say to you

I was only having fun

If you ever get to heaven

Sneak me inside

Cause I’ve been walking with the devil

He’s taken my life

From all the fishes in the deep blue sea

To the stars up in the sky

There’s a million possibilities

To sink or get high

And though those chances come and go

I thought you might be the one

If you ever get to heaven

Sneak me inside

Cause I’ve been walking with the devil

He’s taken my life

I dreamed you were an angel

Sent down from the sun

So if the dark should fall on me

You’d show me where to run

So if you ever get to heaven

Sneak me inside

Cause I’ve been walking with the devil

He’s taken my life

You gotta wait for me

Wait for me

Wait for me

If you ever get to heaven

You’ve Got Control Of Me

My hands are shaking

My heart is pounding

All cause of you

My words are fumbled

My mouth is dry

All cause of you

What could I do

I’m on fire

I’m on fire

I’m on fire

You’ve got control of me

You take my breath away from me

Somehow I knew

I’d never get away

Cause you’ve got control of me

You stood in the doorway

There was a light behind you

Hurting my eyes

It was a perfect moment

One I will remember

All of my life

I still don’t know why

I’m on fire

I’m on fire

I’m on fire

For you

Don’t Wanna Be Like That

You don’t have to be so cool

To keep from crying

You don’t have to be so nice

When you’re falling down

Mama’s in the kitchen talking to herself

Saturdays never made her feel very well

Daddy spends weekdays bouncing off the walls

Saying please Mama, please Mama

You say you give me love

I call it something else

Don’t wanna be like that

Don’t wanna be like that

You can take it back

Don’t wanna be like that

You don’t have to be so strong

When you feel like walking

There’s a place where we belong

I’m gonna take you there

Mama’s in the kitchen talking to herself

Saturdays never made her feel very well

Daddy spends weekdays bouncing off the wall

Saying please Mama, please Mama

You say you give me love

I call it something else

Don’t wanna hold this thing above you

Or put you on some shelf

Don’t wanna be like that

Don’t wanna be like that

You can take it back

Don’t wanna ever be, never be like that

You don’t have to be so cool

To be with me

Mission Bells

My uncle came down in the morning

Looking like the crack of dawn

His hair was combed and his shirt was clean

There was something going on

He said I laid upstairs and I listened

While the world went round and round

There was something that I’d been missing

And I thought I heard a sound

Saying time won’t heal

What only time can tell

And I’ve been waiting on those mission bells

There’s a line we feel

Between the heaven and hell

And the waiting on those mission bells

The waiting on those mission bells

Well some of us wait until winter

Before we feel the cold

Some of us hold onto some things

Like they’re worth their weight in gold

My uncle just stood by the window

Thinking of the days he lied

To the people he gathered around him

And the voice he heard inside

Saying come on down

Come on down

Come on, come on

Come on down

Cause only time can heal

What only time can tell

And I’ve been waiting on those mission bells

There’s a line we feel

Between the heaven and hell

And the waiting on those mission bells

There’s a line we feel

Between the heaven and hell

And the waiting on those mission bells

The waiting on those mission bells

Negligee

The nights are getting clear and long

The curtains are blowing

There goes another year, another song

Never thought I’d last this long

But that’s o.k.

It doesn’t matter anyway

I still have these photographs

I still have those dreams

When there’s no place left to hide

The road is free and wide

Dana has a smile like a negligee

The more she wears it the less I say

I can see Dana slip away

The time is getting near and soon

I’ll go down to meet her

We’ll have another beer, another tune

And play it to an empty room

But that’s o.k.

It doesn’t matter anyway

I still have these photographs

I still have those dreams

When there’s no place left to hide

The road is free and wide

Dana has a smile like a negligee

The more she wears it the less I say

And I can see Dana slip away

The Sound Of One

Sideway glances

Ice-cube jangling sounds

In a universe that overflows with stars

That will watch you

Anywhere, anytime you move

Picture perfect

I thought I saw you smile

As the radio crackles through the dark

It’s closing time once again

Be my friend tonight

Once there was a road I used to know

That took me to the sound of drums

Now it’s just a place I used to go

I cannot see it now

I do not want to run

I cannot hear the sound of one

Call it crazy

Say its just a phase

I’ll be over this when morning comes around

Before I go I’m waking you

And taking you with me

Once there was a road I used to know

That took me to the sound of drums

Now its just a place I used to go

I cannot see it now

I do not want to run

I cannot hear the sound of one

The sound of one will ring out loud

The sound of one will ring out loud
